The conference is designed to:
• Promote the notion of prisons as part of the wider community
and highlight the positive contributions each can make to the
other
• Exchange and review information and good practice in the field
• Promote co-operation between different professions, disciplines,
interests and countries
• Continue to exploit the opportunities for co-operation provided by
the EU enlargement
• Consolidate learning from experience in related fields
• Identify issues for further discussion, review and research in the
field
• Promote pragmatic, realistic, effective and cost saving interventions
with problematic drug users in the criminal justice system
